ASME B16.5 Threaded Blind Flange is commonly used for processing equipment in the mining, chemical, cryogenic, food, dairy, and pharmaceutical industries. The chromium content in such Stainless Steel Threaded Flanges allows the formation of a molecular layer of chromium oxide on the surface of the steel. It provides useful corrosion resistance in a wide range of moderately oxidizing to moderately reducing environments. Carbon Steel Threaded Flanges should not be exposed to temperatures between 800 degrees F / 1650 degrees F (425 degrees C / 900 degrees C) nor should it be allowed to cool slowly above this range to prevent intergranular corrosion from occurring.
Threaded Lap Joint Flange can be cold worked to high tensile strengths with somewhat lower ductility. Table D Threaded Flanges is also used in the food and beverage industry, pressure holding applications, sanitary or cryogenic applications, etc. Forging ideally occurs at these temperatures: 1149°C – 1260°C (2100°F – 2300°F). Table E Threaded Flanges is used for applications requiring a low work hardening rate in heavy cold forming operations such as deep drawing. Must be annealed at 1850 degrees F/2050 degrees F (1010 degrees C/1120 degrees C) and water quenched.
